Aledo Growth Committee Completes Charge, Presents to AISD Board of Trustees

ALEDO, Texas, April 21, 2026 - After eight months of working on planning for the future of high school learning space in Aledo ISD, the 2025-2026 Aledo Growth Committee presented their final recommendations to the Board of Trustees at the April regular meeting on Monday night.
The AGC started meeting in September 2025 with a charge from Trustees to lead the development of conceptual designs for future high school facilities, incorporating community input and vision. Through four community co-chair-led committee meetings and two public community feedback meetings, tours of local high schools and career and technical education campuses, a public online feedback form, and feedback opportunities from staff and students, the AGC presented two concepts: a second, more traditional high school and a college and career academy.
“This committee had the luxury of time to plan for what potential future high school space will look like,” community member and AGC co-chair Dan Reilley said. “As growth has slowed in Aledo, we are not currently in a position to need to build additional high school space. But we know that could change any minute, and now we have two conceptual designs ready to go for when the next growth committee is convened.”

Since the district’s growth has slowed since the formation of the 2022-2023 AGC and in an effort to be proactive in long range facilities planning, the 2025-2026 AGC’s scope was limited to planning and design; they did not develop or recommend a bond package to the Board of Trustees. After further reviewing the district’s enrollment and demographic trends, the AGC determined that additional high school space may not be needed until around 2032-2033.
“We have been very intentional in our planning, and we are proud of the dedication and work we have done,” community member and AGC co-chair Kelli Stumbo said. “We feel like we have thoughtfully and thoroughly prepared so that the next Aledo Growth Committee starts off on the right foot and with some extensive planning work already completed.”
The 2025-2026 AGC - which is composed of many members of the 2022-2023 Aledo Growth Committee plus new parent, staff and community member representatives to fill vacancies - presented on Monday night two conceptual designs that were developed by an architecture firm with feedback from the committee.
- High School No. 2: This would more than likely be a traditional high school much like Aledo High School. Aledo High School was built in 2000, so this new comprehensive high school would function similarly as AHS - with equity between campuses in mind - but it would be modernized to offer better flexibility as the learning experience evolves. The district already owns land just north of McAnally Middle School and east of McKinney Elementary for a potential future second high school.
- College and Career Academy: A CCA would hold specialized learning spaces for about 1,200 students and would serve ALL Aledo High School students as well as any future high school students in Aledo once a second or even third high school is built. Aledo High School students would primarily take introductory classes and some core subject classes at the Aledo High School-Daniel Ninth Grade Campus and then flow in and out of the CCA for higher-level career and technical education and/or advanced academics classes. This means they still have the opportunity to participate in fine arts, athletics and other extra-curricular activities just like they do now. Classes would include courses in our Career and Technical Education Programs of study as well as advanced academic courses for college credit. The district already owns land just east of DNG for a potential future CCA.

“Being proactive in our planning is important; we have no idea when the economy will turn and our enrollment will begin to rapidly increase like it was just a few years ago,” AISD Board President Forrest Collins said. “We appreciate the Aledo Growth Committee extending their time and service to our district and community by taking on this task. We are excited about what they presented and the future of high school learning space in Aledo.”
In 2022, the Board of Trustees appointed the 2022-2023 Aledo Growth Committee (AGC). This 53-person citizens committee, composed of parents, staff, and community members, served in an advisory capacity to the Board of Trustees and, at the February 13, 2023 Special Board Meeting, recommended the 2023 Bond Program to the Board of Trustees for their consideration. In May of 2023 the 2023 Bond Program was passed by the community and implemented across the district.
All major construction projects in the 2023 Bond Program are completed, including the new Lynn McKinney Elementary School, the Steve Wood Complex, and renovations to Aledo High School.
